Day 6 - Boulder -> Beaver, Utah

We left Boulder around 10am, heading toward Utah. Little did we know US 70 would be such a beautiful, windy road running through gorges, gulches and snow-covered mountain peaks. We passed Copper Mountain, Vail, Steamboat Springs and the continental divide - gaining elevation from 5,000 to 11,000 feet. The steep grades were a trial for JJ, as we crept up the mountains at a measly 30MPH with flashers on (even 18-wheelers left us in the dust).
The landscape was strikingly large and beautiful, the valleys deep and the land red and arid. The scale of things out here is quite different - there was one segment of US 70 where there were 100 miles between any services, including gas, which we realized we needed after having passed the "no services for 100 miles" sign. Whoops. Luckily, on fumes, we coasted in to a gas station in Salina, UT. This will likely be the only time we'll pay $2.25/gallon with a smile. We made it in to our campsite in Beaver, UT, on a lake in the middle of nowhere. The stars are abundant and bright. Tomorrow we're headed an hour or so south to Zion where we plan to hike for the day.
