Day 13 - Northern California -> Cottage Grove, OR

-We finally did it!

After a leisurely wake-up among the giant redwoods, we drove the remainder of the California coast which spilled us into lush coastal Oregon. What beauty! We drove past dramatic rocky beaches, herds of Elk, and spotted many soaring vulchers overhead. We came upon several deserted coastal towns along route 1, stopping for dinner at Kum-Yon's Chinese/Japanese restaurant in Coos Bay, which our Lonely Planet Guide recommended. Not bad for the middle of nowhere. From there we headed inland and nestled into our cozy campsite in a Walmart parking lot - not the most spectacular site we've had, but the cheapest! We were initially a bit worried about the fight going on outside our window, but Anna managed to peer through the slits of the shades to keep tabs on the situation, which resolved itself after a short time. It's entertaining/embarrassing to wake up in a lot full of shoppers, but it's a kitsch experience we wanted to have. We're proud to say we did not buy any stuff at Walmart, but we did use their facilities. Ha! Off to Portland for a bit, and then headed North to Seattle.
