Day 17 – Olympic Peninsula -> Vancouver Island, BC

After parting with our favorite campsite on the tip of the Olympic Peninsula, we caught a ferry to Victoria on Vancouver Island. We declared our goods on the customs sheet but panicked when we realized we had some contraband still with us: half a package of cream cheese and a stick of butter (dairy’s not allowed). Our knees were shaking when faced the customs agent, but we managed to slip through without a problem. Phew! We decided to treat ourselves to an evening in a local B&B – and found a quaint place run but a British woman, it’s quiet lovely actually! We walked into Victoria and had an early dinner at a great Greek restaurant called Millos (with Yanni in mind). We continued onward in vacation mode by eating ice cream and then stopping by the local brewpub for a beer/margarita. Although we can’t complain a bit about the weather on our trip thus far, the climate here is particularly spectacular – not too hot, not too muggy, and the sun is shining. C’est la vie! Tomorrow we’re taking the 5-hour trek out to Tofino, a rainforest on the island’s western coast – hoping to kayak or surf; we’ll see what the day brings…
